Ambassadorial Scholarships
and
Group Study Exchange Programs

The Ambassadorial Scholarship is the Rotary Foundation's oldest and best-known program, was founded in 1947. Since then, nearly 38,000 men and women from about 100 nations have studied abroad under its auspices. Today it is the world's largest privately funded international scholarships program. Nearly 800 scholarships are awarded each year. Through grants totaling approximately US$500 million, recipients from about 70 countries studied in more than 70 nations.

 Group Study Exchange

Group Study Exchange, or GSE, is one of the most popular programs of The Rotary Foundation. It is a program providing non-Rotarian young professionals (ages 25-40) the opportunity to travel abroad to experience cultures, traditions and professional practices that are different from what they encounter in their home nations. The standard GSE lasts for a full month, to provide members of the GSE team to fully immerse themselves in the pace and processes of the country they are visiting.

GSE was designed to help build international understanding and goodwill between people of all nations, and increase opportunities for peace. Rotary District 6970 places a high priority on GSE, and regularly sends a team from Northeast Florida to another nation, while hosting a team on an exchange basis from the other nation.

The Rotary Club of Jacksonville Long Time Supporter Our club is proud of its support of these programs. The club encourages qualified local students, residents and teachers to apply scholarships and grants.

The purpose of the Ambassadorial Scholarships program is to further international understanding and friendly relations among people of different countries and geographical areas. The program sponsors several types of scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students as well as for qualified professionals pursuing vocational studies. While abroad, scholars serve as goodwill ambassadors to the host country and give presentations about their homelands to Rotary clubs and other groups. Upon returning home, scholars share with Rotarians and others the experiences that led to a greater understanding of their host country.

More information about the Rotary Scholarship program can be found at the District 6970 web site: http://rotaryfoundation6970.org.

Generous contributions from Rotarians worldwide represent a continued faith that today's Ambassadorial Scholars will be tomorrow's community and world leaders.

District 6970 Helps Make It Happen

Accordingly, the District sub-committee endeavors to generate the widest possible participation, to inform applicants as well as Rotarians about the scholarship program, to train anyone entrusted with participation in the dissemination of the program and the selection of the best candidates, to supervise the selection process, and to communicate with the Foundation regarding scholarships and teachers grants.
